01Overview
MBBS in UAE: Everything You Should Know
UAE is one of the rare places where an Indian student could go for a medical education in an English-speaking international setting without leaving the Gulf region. UAE’s universities have six-year courses for MBBS or MD degrees with clinical rotations in the UAE.
The MBBS in Dubai pathway would be sensible for a certain type of student – one who prefers to study in the Gulf, wants English-taught medical courses, and can afford more expensive tuition costs compared to cheaper destinations for the MBBS degree.
The crucial factor for the Indian student is not just that the university is accredited in the UAE. As stated by NMC, it does not provide an approved list of foreign medical universities. The student should do his own research about the course duration, language of instruction, syllabus, clinical rotations, internship and other FMGL criteria before admission.
The internship is what requires the most focus. According to FMGL guidelines, the Indian graduate has to complete a 12-month internship in the same foreign institution from where he/she received his/her medical degree, and the study program, internship, and course have to meet certain criteria. Thus, a six-year program in a university cannot be regarded as an NMC-compliant six-year pathway.

| Parameter | Details & Specifications |
|---|---|
| Course Duration | 6 Years, including internship of 1 year |
| Medium of Instruction | English Medium |
| Annual Tuition Fees | ₹17 lakh – ₹36 lakh per year |

| To practise in India | FMGE or NExT, then a further 12-month Indian internship |
What does this mean for you: This is what it means for you - the degree is achievable but the time required is slightly longer than in India. Plan for 6 years from the start of the degree until you practise in India, not 5.5.
These are just basic facts about the countries. The only figures you actually need to take into account are your personal score and budget.
03Why UAE
Why Choose UAE for MBBS
MBBS in Dubai for Indian students is costly when compared to other countries which are marketed to Indian students. What the UAE offers is proximity to India, English-speaking education, a healthcare environment in the Gulf, and universities regulated by the UAE higher education system.
English medium
Most major medical courses in the UAE are conducted in English. Major universities include English as the language of instruction in their six-year MBBS course. So, students do not have to worry about anything.
Practical experience
The clinical exposure of medical courses in the UAE is made possible by the teaching hospitals and healthcare institutions that are attached to these universities.
Proximity to India
Compared to Europe, China, or Latin America, travel time between the UAE and India is shorter. This can reduce the practical difficulty of visiting home during a six-year MBBS in Dubai programme.
Advanced Infrastructure
In the UAE, there is advanced infrastructure for MBBS education, with the help of which you will get digital anatomy labs and highly advanced simulation centres.
Global Recognition
There are globally recognised MBBS courses offered by the UAE, which are also approved by WHO and NMC. So, the degree holder can easily apply for licensing exams across the world.
International environment
The UAE has an Indian community and an international student environment. This can make life simpler for Indian students than in locations where language and cultural differences pose greater challenges to adjustment.
04Recognition
Is MBBS in UAE Valid in India?
Yes, an MBBS degree from the UAE is accepted in India as well; however, it should be ensured that one adheres to all the conditions laid down by the National Medical Commission (NMC), which has established certain rules and regulations for Indian students interested in MBBS from the UAE.
The Five NMC Conditions, Checked One by One
Condition 1
The course duration of an MBBS course shall comprise 4.5 years (54 months) of study and 1 year (12 months) of clinical rotation in any recognised health institution.
Condition 2
The mode of instruction for an MBBS degree offered in UAE medical universities shall be in English and not any other language native to the region.
Condition 3
According to Schedule 1 of the NMC Gazette, an MBBS course shall cover all the essential subjects in medicine (over 19).
Condition 4
During the course duration of an MBBS degree, a 1-year (12 months) internship is a must at a recognised institution affiliated to the university.
Condition 5
For Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), it is mandatory to clear the medical licensing test like FMGE or NExT, to work as doctors in India.
Source: NMC (Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate) Regulations, 2021. Binds students joining from 18 November 2021 onwards. See regulations here.
What this means for you: Never ask your agent whether a UAE university is “NMC approved”. NMC does not actually give approval to a list of international medical schools. Ask the university for documentation concerning the duration of the course, English-medium program, clinical experience, internship, and eligibility for UAE medical registration.
One condition we have not confirmed: Several MBBS or MD programs in the UAE are said to be six years long. This does not necessarily mean that the program has a one-year period of internship after the degree program. The six-year MD program is said to include the fifth and sixth years as clerkships and internship. Comparison must be done between the NMC requirements and the program structure.
Do These NMC Rules Apply to You?
These regulations will be applicable only to those students who have enrolled since 18th November 2021. The regulations will not apply to those who were enrolled prior to this date as per older regulations. On most pages, regulations are stated without any cutoff, thereby misleading many students halfway through their degrees.
The five NMC conditions, in the Gazette's own words
Each condition quoted from the 18 November 2021 notification itself, with the clause number, so you can hold a university's offer against the actual wording.

05Eligibility
MBBS in UAE Eligibility Criteria
You require NEET qualifying marks, 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at 10+2 level (40% marks for SC, ST and OBC candidates), along with completion of 17 years of age by 31 December of that admission year.
NEET is compulsory
Without NEET qualifying marks, you cannot obtain a license in India, no matter what any university abroad may accept.
PCB Criteria
Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at 10+2 – The average marks in PCB, not total percentage, for MBBS admission in UAE.
Age
17 years of age by 31 December of that admission year for MBBS in UAE eligibility.
Passport Validity
Passport valid far beyond the duration of the course.
If you meet all these four criteria, then you are eligible to apply. Whether or not your marks qualify as per NEET cut-off is a different story altogether – use the eligibility calculator.
Satisfying the criteria is one aspect. Knowing which universities accept your NEET score is another matter.
06Admission

Documents Required for MBBS in UAE
Two sets of documents are considered: the documents that you have, which will be checked by the university when applying for admission to the university, and the documents that you will need in order to reside in the UAE and get enrolled in the university after admission.
- ✓A valid passport
- ✓10th and 12th certificates/marksheets
- ✓NEET scorecard (Indian students)
- ✓Birth certificate, where required
- ✓Medical fitness certificate
- ✓HIV test report, where required
- ✓Passport-size photographs
- ✓Application forms
What this means for you: The order of the steps is more important than the checklist itself. The steps must be followed in sequence, and failing to do so is the most frequent cause of an application’s rejection.

NMC & WHO Recognised Medical Colleges in UAE
It is important to note that the program that Indian students are selecting to study in medical colleges in UAE should meet the requirements of the NMC for foreign graduates.
There are institutional and program recognition mechanisms maintained by the UAE higher education authorities. The automatic recognition program of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research includes educational institutions in the UAE like Ajman University, Dubai Medical University, Gulf Medical University, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, RAK Medical & Health Sciences University, UAE University and University of Sharjah.
Below is the list of universities which includes undergraduate medical courses suitable for Indian students.
Source: UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, university program pages, and NMC rules for graduates from foreign countries. Currently, the UAE Ministry recognises 38 higher education institutes in the UAE under its automatic recognition scheme, some of which provide programs in medicine.

MBBS in UAE Fee Structure
Tuition fees for medicine in the UAE are significantly higher than the costs normally cited in connection with China, Russia, or Central Asia. The table below shows the cost university by university — MBBS in UAE fees and hostel per year, and the total for the full course.
University-wise MBBS in UAE fees
| University Name | City | Avg. Annual Tuition Fee | Total Tuition Cost Across 6 Years |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine & Health Sciences (MBRU) | Dubai | AED 160,000 | AED 960,000 |
| Gulf Medical University (GMU) | Ajman | AED 155,000 | AED 930,000 |
| Ras Al Khaimah Medical & Health Sciences University (RAKMHSU) | Ras Al Khaimah | AED 134,000* | AED 865,400* |
| University of Sharjah – College of Medicine | Sharjah | AED 130,430 | AED 782,580 |
| Ajman University – College of Medicine | Ajman | AED 127,050 | AED 762,300 |
| Dubai Medical University (DMU) | Dubai | AED 126,000 | AED 756,000 |
Note: The RAKMHSU currently charges AED 134,000 per year for indicative MD tuition and AED 865,400 for programme cost; programme cost is calculated based on the university’s applicable fee structure, rather than simply multiplying AED 134,000.
For DMU in particular, the institution has published hostel charges for 2025-26, which are AED 12,000 per annum for double occupancy, AED 15,000 per annum for normal single occupancy, and AED 18,000 per annum for deluxe single occupancy.
Other Costs on Top of Tuition
| Expense Category | Approx. Value in AED | Approx. Value in INR* |
|---|---|---|
| Medical/Health Insurance | AED 1,500–3,500 per year | ₹34,500–₹80,500 |
| Student Visa / Residence Costs | AED 2,000–5,000 per year | ₹46,000–₹1.15 lakh |
| Admission/Application Charges | AED 1,000–1,500+ | ₹23,000–₹34,500+ |
| Air Travel to India | AED 2,000–5,000 per year | ₹46,000–₹1.15 lakh |
| Books, equipment & personal academic expenses | AED 2,000–5,000 per year | ₹46,000–₹1.15 lakh |
Note: This is an indicative conversion based on AED 1 = ₹23. Rates may vary depending on the university and year of study. For instance, the application cost is AED 1,050, and the seat reservation charge is AED 10,000 at MBRU, whereas the application cost is AED 1,050 and the seat reservation amount is AED 6,000 at DMU
Most families fund this with an education loan against an NMC-recognised seat.
Cost of Living in UAE
The living cost in UAE is independent of the tuition and varies greatly depending on the emirate, type of accommodation, food preferences, and way of life.
| Expense Category | Approx. Monthly Cost in AED | Approx. Monthly Cost in INR* |
|---|---|---|
| Hostel / Shared Accommodation | AED 1,000–2,000+ | ₹23,000–₹46,000+ |
| Food & Groceries | AED 800–1,500 | ₹18,400–₹34,500 |
| Local Transport | AED 200–500 | ₹4,600–₹11,500 |
| Mobile & Internet | AED 100–250 | ₹2,300–₹5,750 |
| Personal Expenses | AED 300–700 | ₹6,900–₹16,100 |
| Utilities & Miscellaneous | AED 200–500 | ₹4,600–₹11,500 |
Note: Indicative conversion based on AED 1 = ₹23. Fees may differ according to Emirates and individual living standards. For instance, DMU does not include hostels and transport fees in its MD program tuition.
What this means for you: Look at tuition fee + accommodation fee + food + visa & insurance + transport fee as your annual MBBS in UAE fees budget. Just the tuition fee will make the program seem much more affordable than the total six-year fee.
11Funding
Scholarships for MBBS in UAE
UAE fees for the MBBS program can be quite costly for Indian students, but some UAE universities providing medical courses have special scholarships or fee reductions for their MBBS course programs. While some institutions offer scholarships for MBBS in UAE to outstanding students on merit, others give financial need scholarships or tuition reductions. These scholarships may pay for only a portion of the tuition cost and are given on an annual basis.
Government Scholarships
Government scholarships are usually dependent on eligibility criteria relating to nationality and the program. Indian students must check if the concerned government scholarship scheme allows international undergraduate medical students for their MBBS in UAE budget.
University Scholarships
MBRU Future Doctors Scholarship: Up to 30% tuition per year for selected best-performing new MD candidates. Continuing MD students with an annual GPA of 3.8 or higher may also receive up to 30%.
MBRU Jood Scholarship
The university may grant up to 50% of annual MD tuition to those students who have financial needs, provided that they meet the eligibility criteria of the university.
RAKMHSU Merit Scholarship
Students pursuing the MD program who have scored at least 97% in Grade 12/equivalent grade can get a 20% discount on the tuition fee in Year 1. In Year 2 and later years, if they qualify based on GPA and ranking, a 15% or 20% discount is available.
Ajman University Medicine Scholarship
Top five College of Medicine students who score 99% or more will be granted a scholarship of 30% of their first semester fee.
What they typically cover. Scholarships for a few high-performing students academically who can pay a portion of the total fee towards education expenses, except living costs.
What this means to you: Get ready to pay for yourself while doing your MBBS course in UAE. Treat scholarships as a surprise to you, but do not depend on them.
Education Loan for MBBS in UAE
As MBBS/MD studies can be costly in the UAE, an Indian student might think about getting education loans from banks and other regulated institutions that offer overseas education loans. Eligibility for the loan would depend upon the lender, university, course, amount of the loan required, collateral, and finances of the applicant/co-applicant.
What banks ask for
Offer/admission letter, 10th and 12th marksheets, NEET scorecard, passport/visa, income certificate of co-applicant and 6 months of bank statements, security papers as per the requirement of the amount.
What a loan usually covers
Tuition fee, hostel/accommodation fees, insurance and compulsory fees, flight fare, books, equipment and laboratory fees. Cost of living may be covered by some financial institutions and not by others.
Factors to consider before signing for MBBS
If the interest rate is fixed or variable, when repayment begins after graduation, and whether the payment will be made per semester in university currency – the tuition fee is in CNY, so the amount will fluctuate.
12Course
MBBS in UAE Course Duration & Syllabus
UAE medical schools do not have a standard national MBBS course. Different universities have different structures for undergraduate medical programs, and some universities award the MBBS degree while other universities award the MD degree. There are many universities in the UAE which offer six-year undergraduate medical courses complies with the NMC guidelines.
Non-negotiable in relation to meeting the NMC standards: The taught course should be for a minimum of 54 months, the entire program should be completed in ten years of enrollment, and the internship should be completed in the same institution overseas.
Course length varies by university, and it determines whether your degree satisfies the 54-month rule.
Medium of Teaching
Most medical universities in UAE offer dedicated English-medium programmes for easier understanding by all students. However, interacting with local patients requires learning the language of your region for smooth communication and to perform medical procedures. Nonetheless, lectures, practicals, and exams are conducted in English for overseas students.
What this means for you: Consider "English-medium" to be the language of academic instruction. While on clinical training, one may use several languages, and therefore it will be helpful to improve communication skills.
When verified by the university: Which programmes need English-language certification, which scores are acceptable, and whether there are other language requirements during clinical training.
Language is the thing graduates most often say they underestimated.
Curriculum Highlights
The MBBS/MD curriculum structure in the UAE starts with basic sciences, then moves on to integrated medical sciences, followed by clinical courses.
However, the subjects may vary among different universities.

Is MBBS in UAE Taught in English?
Indeed, an MBBS in UAE is taught in English only to its international students, helping Indian students overcome any linguistic hurdles. All the top medical universities in the UAE, including East Sarajevo, Sarajevo Medical School, and Mostar, offer English-taught MBBS courses, without the need to know the UAE language beforehand; however, the local language is also taught along with the regular course so that the students can effectively communicate with people during exposure and daily life.

14After graduation
Career Pathways After MBBS in UAE
An MBBS in UAE provides many avenues for Indian graduates to pursue their careers through the Indian medical licensing examination, UAE licensing procedures, and overseas options. Below are career paths to follow if a person is pursuing a medical practice in India:
- Complete the 6-year MBBS programme in the UAE

- Pass the FMGE/NExT exam, then undertake mandatory internships
- Get registered with the NMC or the State Medical Councils
Constraint that is not covered on any other website: Whatever path one chooses, the process of following the path will be the same for all countries - fulfilling the licensing requirements. For one to practise in his/her country of preference, he/she must fulfil all licensing requirements.
What this means for you: Students need to prepare for a 6-year process to become doctors in their chosen countries. The licensing process may vary from country to country and may incur extra costs.
These are the rules as written, not a sales pitch. Ask before you commit six years.
UAE MBBS offers three paths. Only one of them is the path most Indian graduates follow.
Returning to Practice in India
After completing the MBBS in UAE, the student will need to appear for the FMGE/NExT, followed by a CRMI (internship), and then seek registration with the NMC/State Medical Council.
